WAVY-TV showed pictures of the low-rise residential complex, with much of its roof sheared off, exposing a gaping hole in the structure.

At least one person was killed when a helicopter crashed into a residential townhome building in Williamsburg, Virginia Sunday evening.

Danylko's family said through Virginia State Police that the 91-year-old served as secretary to the president of the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) for many years.

The confirmed death was not the pilot of the helicopter.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which is investigating the crash, confirmed the pilot was the only person in the helicopter when it went down.

The pilot of the helicopter is still unaccounted for, and emergency workers can not access the crash scene due to instability in the structure.

"Pilot and aircraft information is still unknown at this time due to structural safety", Anaya said.

The helicopter crashed into the apartment building at 4:35 p.m. Sunday, Anaya said. Police say the remains of Jean L. Danylko, 91, who lived in the condominium that was struck, were recovered at the scene.

Officials say firefighters worked through the night to put out the fire and hot spots in the building.

The impact of the crash sparked up a fire at the townhouse complex, which is surrounded by several other residential units.
