Gunn, 51, was axed on Friday after offensive tweets he posted between 2008 and 2009 resurfaced.
Gunn has been working on the script for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3", and the movie was expected to begin shooting in Atlanta in the fall for an expected 2020 release date, though Marvel Studios had never officially announced the date.
His co-star, Zoe Saldana, was a bit more avert on her own Twitter, writing, "It's been a challenging weekend I'm not gonna lie. Even these many years later, I take full responsibility for the way I conducted myself then". I just want everyone to know I love ALL members of my GOTG family.
On Monday, he wrote, "What will you do when the #cybernazis attack you?"
Chriss didn't reference Gunn's firing directly, but he made a biblical reference that fit the issue for his almost 6 million followers.
"Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters. Let every person be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger.' JAMES 1:19", he wrote with prayer hands and a heart emojis. "This man is one of the good ones". He's gentle and kind and cares deeply for people and animals. "Im NOT ok with what's happening to him", he tweeted on Friday.
Gunn said of the tweets: "My words of almost a decade ago were, at the time, totally failed and unfortunate efforts to be provocative". The filmmaker has since deleted his Twitter account.
