Avenatti said Daniels was arrested during a sting operation.
"This was a setup & politically motivated", Mr. Avenatti wrote.
The porn star's lawyer said the arrest "reeks of desperation", and said Daniels was performing the same routine she had done "at almost a hundred strip clubs" throughout the country. "We will vehemently contest all charges". Hours before her performance, Stormy retweeted a promotional flyer from the club, which can be seen below. "We also expect that she will be charged with a misdemeanor for allowing "touching".
Early Thursday she remained in custody awaiting a determination of bail, Avenatti said.
"We are highly confident that in the unlikely event that the district attorney proceeds with charges that she will be found not guilty", Avenatti said.
Daniels, who claims to have had sex with President Donald Trump in 2006 when he was married, is suing the president and his former personal lawyer Michael Cohen over a nondisclosure agreement she signed to keep quiet on the alleged affair.
While Cohen's carefully worded statement said the Trump Organization and campaign weren't involved in the payout, it conspicuously did not rule out Trump's involvement. In May, Trump said Daniels was paid to stop "false and extortionist accusations" she made about a sexual encounter with him.
In May, Trump had admitted to knowing about his attorney paying $1,30,000 to Clifford, before the 2016 presidential elections.
