World Cup 2018: A guide to semi-finals

Belgium assistant coach Thierry Henry is plotting the downfall of France in the World Cup semi-finals. Deschamps - famously dubbed as the "water carrier" for his style of play when he captained the France squad to victory in 1998; providing the legs for the more creative midfielders around him - and Martinez have very different approaches to the game.

Belgium will be seeking to break new ground by reaching the final for the first time in their history - indeed they have only reached the semi-finals once before, in 1986.

Hugo Lloris expects Thierry Henry to have divided loyalties when France face Belgium for a place in the World Cup final on Tuesday night. He has combined superbly with Antoine Griezmann.

Belgium coach Roberto Martinez set up his side brilliantly against Brazil, and I'm sure he will replicate that and come up with a plan to stop Mbappe, and for that matter Antoine Griezmann.

After a slow start to the tournament and uninspiring progress from the group stage - despite two wins and a draw - Didier Deschamps' team swept past Argentina in the last 16 thanks to a blistering attacking display from teenager Kylian Mbappe, who was involved in three of France's four goals, scoring twice and winning a penalty.

Giroud did his best not to stoke the flames, but said he thought Tottenham's Lloris was the better goalkeeper.

"He is first and foremost French".

Belgium´s Kevin De Bruyne said Henry had talked little about his feelings.

"It will be weird to have him up against us", said France striker Olivier Giroud.

On a Belgium team packed with so much talent that it's known as the Golden Generation, De Bruyne is one of the standouts along with striker Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard.

The French then showed their steel in the 2-0 disposal of Luis Suarez and Uruguay in the quarter-finals.

In their quarter-final encounter against Brazil, Belgium were imperious.

Henry, a World Cup and European Championship victor with France as well as their record goalscorer, is now in the Belgium camp as assistant manager.

'Nobody is out, even though we rested some of our players as a precautionary measure, ' the France boss said.

"We know we have some unbelievable players and a great manager and everyone is clear on what we want to do".

Mbappe has been one of the stars of the 2018 World Cup. "They're good in the air and on the ground".

Top stat: Lukaku has been directly involved in 20 goals in his last 13 games for Belgium in all competitions - three assists and a whopping 17 goals.

With the second-youngest roster at the World Cup, France has excelled and advanced to the World Cup semifinals for the first time since 2006.

Deschamps had appeared cautious to allow players such as Mbappe free rein early on in Russian Federation, but there is the growing feeling that he is now offering more attacking licence to a team so rich in talent going forward.

Domagoj Vida is available for Croatia after Federation Internationale de Football Association opted to only give the defender a warning after he made pro-Ukraine comments in a social media video following his team's quarter-final win against hosts Russia on penalties.
