Federal authorities said the tour group was in NY this week, and Ma's mother was spotted speaking with her daughter near the World Trade Center. The FBI have taken over the investigation.

State police issued the alert after learning a woman had led Ma into a auto, after Ma arrived from NY as part of a Chinese tour group.

A 12-year-old girl was reportedly abducted at Reagan National Airport on Thursday, according to Virginia State Police.

According to the Amber Alert, Ma had not yet checked into her flight, but had her passport on her. Police say Ma then met with a middle-aged woman, who also was visiting from China.

The woman helped JinJing change clothes and the two then walked together to the arrivals area of the airport and disappeared from the view of surveillance cameras.

Police say a couple approached Ma while with her group sightseeing on the property of the World Trade Center in NY, believing in their connection to her abduction.

Ma, who is on a visa issued for her US trip, will be staying in NY with her parents and there is no immediate rush to send her back to China, Demichik added.

In a later statement, Chief Huchler said "We are grateful that JingJing is safe and with family". On Friday afternoon, the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority said Ma was found safe and was in the custody of her parents. By then, the woman and a man drove away with Ma in a white 2016-2018 Infiniti QX-60 with unknown NY tags, Huchler said.

The Airport Authority says the 12-year-old is 4 feet, 11 inches tall about 90 pounds. Police issued an Amber Alert after she separated from her tour group.

"We believe the contact up in NY is connected to the contact here", he added.

Anyone with information pertaining to the case is urged to call 911 immediately.
