Gunman kills 5, self in Southern California rampage

The story apparently began with the suspect and his wife going to a trucking business on Maxwell Street just before 5:30 p.m.

One man was shot outside a sports store near a trucking company where the gunman killed two others.

Once at the home, the suspect gunned down two men inside before hijacking a vehicle.

Police then received a call from a woman who said she had been carjacked. He commandeered a vehicle before he killed himself when he was confronted by a sheriff's deputy, Youngblood said.

The identities of the suspect and the victims were not released Wednesday night.

After the woman and child escaped, he pulled over to the side of a road and shot himself in the chest.

Police said the final report in this case could take a long time, as there are 30 witnesses to this heinous crime-all of which need to be interviewed.

The shooting at multiple locations in Bakersfield in central California was possibly "a domestic violence incident", said Lieutenant Mark King of the Kern County sheriff's office.

- A series of shootings in Bakersfield have left six people dead and the suspect is among those fatalities, deputies say.

The suspect fled toward a neighborhood, Youngblood said, and was headed toward a specific residence.

"Obviously, these are not random shootings", Youngblood told KERO-TV. The deputy who confronted the man was wearing a body camera. "This is highly unusual".

In all, five victims and one suspect are dead.
