The exact reason for his death and the circumstances around the tragedy are still not clear, even though initial reports suggested that it was because of a drug overdose.

While the direct cause of Mac Miller's death won't be known for weeks, a new report claims to add more context to the final hours of his life.

Mac Miller's friend sobbed to first responders in the shocking 911 call, RadarOnline.com can confirm.

When officers and emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they determined the Pittsburgh rapper had been dead before they got there, TMZ reported Thursday, citing law enforcement sources. It was called in as "cardiac arrest", because the person may not have realized he was dead.

In heartbreaking audio obtained by Radar, a distressed friend told authorities to "please hurry" after discovering the rapper's dead body in his Studio City, Los Angeles home.

Miller released his latest record "Swimming" on August 3, and was recently in the headlines following a charge of DUI in May after he crashed his vehicle into a pole in Los Angeles. According to TMZ, Miller had been dead for several hours before he was discovered unresponsive inside his Southern California home on September 7. The family also released a statement at the time of his death.

Mac Miller's friend knew the rapper was in a desperate state when he made the call to paramedics after finding Mac's body. Thank you for your prayers.

A host of stars have paid tribute to Mac, including his ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande and Elton John.
