The 42-year-old golfer won his first championship in five years since the 2013 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at the 2018 TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club on Sunday (September 23) in Atlanta, Ga.

2017 - Woods returns to competition in November at the unofficial World Challenge, finishing equal ninth in the 18-man field.

The atmosphere was electric as Woods made his way to the final hole, and he was visibly emotional after sinking his last putt, with barely a dry eye in the house. "My hands are good enough, and I just didn't know if I could piece together a golf swing". Then, last year, Woods was hit with a DUI charge. "I've worked my way back and I couldn't have done it without the help of everyone around me", he said after winning.

"I've explained throughout the year that..."

"I can't believe I pulled this off", Woods said Sunday during the trophy presentation at the Tour Championship, where he gave thousands of delirious fans at East Lake, and millions more around the world, what they wanted to see, and what they thought they might never see again.

With his 43rd birthday approaching in December, Woods remains a long shot to win five more majors to overhaul the career tally of Jack Nicklaus even if the Golden Bear himself was not ruling it out. He followed that up with a tie for fifth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and it was at this point that many finally understood that Woods can still play this game.

"I knew what the scenarios were".

Woods, who returned in January after missing nearly the entire previous two years with a debilitating back injury, held a three-shot advantage heading into the final round. "It was special to see them".

The victory erased any last lingering doubts about Woods' ability to compete at the highest level, something he had served notice of with top 10 finishes at the British Open and US PGA Championships.

"Billy put a bit of pressure on me at the end".

The next stop for Woods is to board a plane with the rest of his USA teammates for France and the Ryder Cup.

Without that birdie, Woods would have won his third FedEx Cup title after starting at No. 20 going into the Tour Championship.

"Eighteen months ago, we saw him being arrested", Bradley, the fan from Kentucky, said while tracking Woods' shots on the driving range.

Woods was made to sweat however after a shaky three-over-par 73 on his final round.

"I'm so glad for Tiger", Foley added.
