'I feel very empathetic, frankly, for victims of sexual assault, sexual harassment and rape.

It is not the first time that Conway - a counsellor to the president - has spoken of prior sexual assault. Jeff Flake at the U.S. Capitol last week should "blame the perpetrator". She was referring to the movement that began a year ago and has seen multiple women level sexual misconduct accusations against men in high-profile positions of power in politics, media, and other fields.

When Tapper circle back around to Conway's sexual assault reveal, she seemed to immediately go on the defensive.

Kellyanne Conway said she had been a victim of sexual assault during an interview with CNN while discussing the FBI's investigation into Mr Kavanaugh, who has been accused of sexual assault and sexual misconduct by three women.

Tapper asked Conway if Ford and other women should be heard.

"I would talk to some of the members of Congress out there", she said.

"But we do treat people differently - who are either the victims or the perpetrators of this - based on the politics...based on their gender. That is a huge mistake".

What did Conway say previously about being assaulted?

The Judiciary Committee has said the probe should be limited to "current credible allegations" against Kavanaugh and be finished by next Friday.

When pressed on what "limited scope" means, Conway said, "That's up to the Federal Bureau of Investigation".

The FBI is now investigating Blasey's allegation, though some have questioned the scope of that investigation.

Kavanaugh has denied the claims.

As of Sunday morning, there was no indication that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was going to talk to Julie Swetnick, who also came forward with allegations against Kavanaugh as well as Judge. "We are living through really, really insane times where the scope of an FBI investigation around a sexual assault is being determined by a person who brags about sexual assault".

He has strongly denied accusations of sexual assault following Blasey Ford's testimony.

"Don't conflate that with this, and certainly don't conflate it with what happened to me", she told Tapper.

Conway also said that the support Kavanaugh has received from Republican as well as Democratic women remains steady just days after the Senate hearing. "The Senate is dictating the terms".

She insisted it will be "limited in scope" and "will not be a fishing expedition".

Trump said on Saturday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had "free rein" to investigate Kavanaugh.
