Red Dead Redemption 2 is now only available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but if files in the game's official companion app are any indication, that could be changing in the future.
This makes Red Dead Redemption 2 the second highest Grossing entertainment launch with Grand Theft Auto V holding the number 1 spot. The game isn't doing as well as Rockstar's last game, GTA V, which sold two million copies in its last-gen launch week.
Additionally, Red Dead Redemption 2 had the largest launch sales of any game released on the PlayStation Network to date, and it was the most pre-ordered game of all time on the PlayStation Network.
Sony has a marketing deal with Rockstar Games for the game, which grants the PlayStation 4 version additional content and early access to Red Dead Online in November. So, with this being the case, the possibility of a virtual reality feature coming to Red Dead Redemption 2 would mark a significant moment in the developer's history, and if it gets implemented, could further establish VR headsets in the mainstream.
It's a phenomenon that has so far gone unexplained and may continue to do so as the lack of solid figures or tracking for digital sales makes it extremely hard to tell exactly what is going on.
