Ryan Coogler to Write, Direct Black Panther Sequel

Writer - director Ryan Coogler, who helmed the the mega-blockbuster of 2018 Black Panther has come on board to direct the sequel of it titled Black Panther 2.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, unnamed sources revealed that Coogler had "quietly closed a deal" to be the creative force for King T'Challa's second featured outing for Disney and the MCU, though additional details are still light.

"Black Panther" blew away box office records earlier this year, making $1.3 billion worldwide, including $700 million domestically - the biggest domestic box office gross for any Marvel film.

The first of two films directed by Coogler raked in a whopping $700 million domestically, $1.3 billion in total, and is nearly assured of a place in the yearly "Oscar conversation". Currently, Marvel's release slate has not been confirmed beyond Avengers 4 on May 3, 2019, and Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 5, 2019.

On top of that, they're also planning on putting the movie forward for Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Song (for "All The Stars" by Kendrick and SZA), and six more categories, too. A Black Panther 2 release date has yet to be announced.

It looks like a return to Wakanda is one step closer. But Marvel clearly can't envision a Wakanda without Coogler in it.

Coogler is also a producer on the upcoming "Creed 2", a sequel to the Coogler's 2015 Apollo Creed film.

Chadwick Boseman is expected to return in the starring role, as are others in the A-list ensemble.
