Skybound Entertainment, Skybound Games' parent company, is the company behind The Walking Dead comic book series.
This announcement rightly garnered a lot of scepticism but, according to a spokesperson talking to Variety, Skybound also intends to work with the game's original dev team at Telltale, though an official deal has yet to be struck while negotiations between the two studios continue. Now, series creator Robert Kirkman says he's hiring Telltale's Walking Dead team on to finish the adventure series. Things were looking grim for The Walking Dead: The Final Season when it was removed from digital stores following the initial closure announcement, but positive developments have followed since.
There are still many unanswered questions about Skybound's takeover of Telltale's The Walking Dead. The heartbreaking layoff of the Telltale staff meant that Clementine's story would not have an ending, and fans would be left in the air about the future of the Telltale protagonist.
The notice that the final season of The Walking Dead will actually see the light of day may be reassuring to fans, but it's probably cold comfort to the more than 250 employees Telltale laid off at the end of last month with no notice or severance. Skybound will now apparently help finish Episodes 3 and 4, but it remains to be seen when they will be released.
"Come on, we couldn't lose Rick AND Clem in one year", Kirkman said when announcing the deal. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest.
