Brothel owner Dennis Hof posthumously wins Nevada assembly seat

Dennis Hof died Oct. 16

Dennis Hof, the Nevada brothel owner and reality TV star who died in October, won the election for the state's 36th Assembly District on Tuesday, the Nevada Secretary of State's office said.

Hof, a Republican, defeated Democratic challenger Lesia Romanov by more than 7,000 votes. The day before his death, he had enjoyed a rally and birthday party that was attended by, amongst others, famous porn star Ron Jeremy.

Dennis Hof owner of the "Moonlite Bunny Ranch" attends Exxotica Day 1 at New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center on November 13, 2015 in Edison, N.J.

This set the expectations of Hof's campaign manager, Chuck Muth, high; as he suggested voters would still opt for the deceased Republican ahead of the General Elections.

Hof gained his claim-to-fame by owning several brothels in Nevada, the only state where prostitution is legal.

He also starred in the HBO adult reality series Cathouse and wrote a book titled The Art of the Pimp, akin to Trump's book The Art of the Deal.

Hof had attempted to mould his political image on that of President Donald Trump, often referring to himself as "Trump from Pahrump" after his hometown in Nevada, according to reports.

As a result of this surprising outcome, county officials have said they would appoint a replacement candidate from the same party for his seat.

"They will feel much more comfortable casting the ballot for him knowing there will be another Republican to replace him", he added.

He ran for office in 2016 as a Libertarian but lost.

He said he faced political retribution this year in the form of an anti-brothel push and regulatory problems.

Hof died in the same Love Ranch suite where Lamar Odom, the former National Basketball Association player and ex-husband of Khloe Kardashian, overdosed in October 2015, the New Yorker report said.

So who will end up representing Nevada's Assembly District 36? They're banned in counties that contain Las Vegas and Reno, and the state does not publicize how many are open.
