Girl, 10, charged with killing six-month-old baby boy in Wisconsin

UPDATE: 10-year-old girl appears in Chippewa Co. Court, pending charges on infant death

Girl, 10, is detained in the death of a six-month-old baby boy after she 'stomped on his head'

A 10-year-old girl was charged with murder after she allegedly "stomped" on a baby's head, killing him.

This is the six month-old baby boy who was fatally injured at a Wisconsin daycare center on October 30. Kowalczyk said the girl told police she hurt the infant.

The Star Tribune is not identifying the girl because her case likely will be referred to juvenile court.

Wearing a colorful striped skirt, a black hoodie and pink sneakers, the girl buried her head in her mothers arms, moaning and crying as Chippewa County District Attorney Wade Newell described the charge against her.

Officers found an unresponsive baby boy who was bleeding from the head.

Last night, the girl was led into court in handcuffs and sobbed all the way through a hearing.

The girl was staying with the family who runs the day care when the tragic death occurred. "The child hit its head on the footstool and then the child started crying and she panicked and didn't know what to do and didn't want to get into trouble and then she proceeded to stomp on the 6 month-old's head".

She was ordered held in custody on $50,000 bond until her next court appearance.

Her biological parents were in court with her, but the girl had been removed from their home in September and placed in foster care.
