MI seeks revenge at home vs. Penn St.

Both teams have big goals as the season winds down, but before you lock in any MI vs. Penn State picks, check out what SportsLine data scientist Stephen Oh is saying.

"The approach Coach Harbaugh has had the whole staff and players is to take care of what's in front of you", Brown said.

Penn State finished with 118 yards passing. Oh already is crushing college football in 2018, but he takes it up a few notches when the Nittany Lions are involved.

Penn State got eliminated from the conference title race with its embarrassing loss to MI and now they are just playing for a better bowl game and to ruin others seasons as they fall the hardest from three to seven in the rankings. They are 2-5 in those games. This week they play Rutgers in what should be their biggest win of the year.

The biggest is that MI football lost to a playoff team and didn't get blown out by an unranked opponent as Ohio State did.

Michigan's defense held Penn State to 186 yards and forced three turnovers, including Tommy Stevens' interception that was returned 62 yards by Brandon Watson in the final minute of the third quarter. That is the challenge for the Wolverines' defense.

"Obviously, everybody knows he got dinged up in the game, so I'm not keeping that a secret", coach James Franklin said. They got next to nothing after that.

What is different that suggests MI can pass this test the second time around? The Wolverines out-gained the Nittany Lions 403-184 while holding a 37:41-20:48 edge in the time of possession.

PSU totaled 28 yards on its first four drives as the MI offense built up a 14-0 lead.

The Michigan revenge tour continued in emphatic fashion once again.

"Those three quarters have been things we have to move on, and I think we've done that on the both sides of the ball". "I'm a little sad about that". Even after the Notre Dame game, it looked like the more of the same. The Wolverines gave up 30 points in those three quarters of play, but have allowed just 85 points in the other 29 quarters the rest of the season. It really depends on the strengths and weaknesses of who we are playing in terms of which way we want to go.

"If we had a chance, we were going to run it up, too", Patterson said. MI hasn't lost since its season opener against Notre Dame, while Penn State is back on track with two straight victories and is still in the hunt for a Big Ten East title. He came up big in Penn State's last massive showdown.

You can't say he hasn't put a lot of thought into it.

The Bulldogs, who have won back-to-back games against Florida and Kentucky, are getting hot at the right time, just like the Wolverines.
