Marcus Rashford scored a victor deep into stoppage time as Manchester United snatched a victory against Bournemouth at the Vitality.

Rashford's close-range finish came after Anthony Martial's effort had cancelled out Callum Wilson's early opener for Bournemouth at Dean Court.

"I think by the end of December, which is the end of the first half of the Premier League, I think we are not going to be in the position we are now". Absolutely bad. And not just my defenders, but the team.

Referring to those once-famous characteristics, Smalling, 28, said: "We're showing that attitude, never giving in and you can see that coming out".

"We got off to a good start but weren't able to add a second and then we disappeared from the game a little", he added.

"I started [at half-time] by saying it was impossible to play worse than we did so the second half will be better for sure".

Speaking after his side's 2-1 win over Bournemouth, Jose stated: "The approach was much more defensive [last season] and with a much more defensive approach you can hide better your weaknesses". It happened again against a good team but we were prepared for everything.

"He's gone from being that player who's been brought into the squad, who's happy to come off the bench and make that impact". We created lots of chances and in the end we have the goal that give us important points. Indeed, the Red Devils showed excellent character following a brisk start from Bournemouth in the first half, which took them by surprise. It was much better.

"But I do think in a young player's development... you've seen it with top players with Wayne Rooney on the left wing at times for Man Utd, [Cristiano] Ronaldo on the wing and up front".

Jose further spoke about the formidable mentality his team displayed at the Vitality stadium on Saturday, by adding: "When we are in control we have no problems, when the opponent is in control I think the team has problems".

Mourinho brought on Ander Herrera and Rashford just before the hour mark to great effect, with the Spaniard bringing extra energy in midfield after replacing Fred; and Rashford should have scored when presented with a glorious opportunity on 65 minutes.

Although numerous Red Devils should be praised for showing passion and determination in their desire to turn the game around, not everybody was willing to go the extra mile to ensure that we left the Vitality with all three points on Saturday.
