Ohio State will be making its first Rose Bowl appearance since the 2009 season when it defeated OR, 26-17. The Cougars are 7-7 in bowl games all time.
With Washington State's prolific offense and Iowa State's hard-hitting defense preparing for war, it should be an entertaining game.
"This is an important bowl season for all of us", Chun said of Pac-12 schools. For the Buckeyes, it's their 15th Rose Bowl appearance but head coach Urban Meyers first.
"I am thrilled for our team and our tremendous group of seniors who have earned the opportunity to go out with a New Year's Day bowl in the state of Florida", Moorhead said. Their only losses were by three points at USC and by 13 to Washington in a Pullman snowstorm.
"Nothing", Campbell said. "I know coach [Mike] Leach is the coach there, I have a lot of respect for coach Leach". Moorhead's eight wins were the most by a first-year Bulldog head coach since College Football Hall of Famer Allyn McKeen went 8-2 in 1939. And I'm guessing if all of that had happened, a one-loss team like Oklahoma would have snuck into the Final Four ahead of the Cougars, and I would have complained about that too.
Ohio State will be the University of Washington's opponent in the Rose Bowl on January 1 in Pasadena, Calif., the first time since the advent of the playoff era in college football that the game will revert to its traditional matchup of conference champions.
"While we are disappointed that they were not selected for a New Year's Six bowl, we made the case for Washington State to the selection committee through the established communications protocols, and we were aligned in our approach with Washington State in this regard", the Pac-12 said in a statement. Mike Leach is 1-3 in bowl games at Washington State and lost all three games as a favorite. "We look forward to a great week".
Previously WSU has played in the Rose Bowl (1916, 1931, 1998, 2003), the Holiday Bowl (1981, 2003, 2016, 2017), the Aloha Bowl (1988), the Copper Bowl (1992), the Alamo Bowl (1994), the Sun Bowl (2001, 2015) and the 2013 New Mexico Bowl. Ohio State finished in the national top 10 with 43.5 points per game, while Washington had a top-10 defense, allowing just 15.5 points per game.
Petersen said he has a "really good" relationship with Meyer: "Known him for a while".
