In the trailer that made its debut moments ago at The Game Awards, Obsidian's new sci-fi RPG The Outer Worlds is presented as the new game from the original creators of Fallout and the studio behind Fallout: New Vegas. It does seem to lean towards some dark humor, however. "In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable", the game's announcement reads.
The game is set on a colonised planet far out in the galaxy.
Ultimately, you'll decide what sort of a character you'll be and the path you'll carve out in The Outer Worlds' "player-driven" story. Spacer's Choice is linked to some sort of George Jetson style space gun, while Auntie Cleo's looks to have something to do with ointments and creams.
The developer has been teasing its upcoming game for a few months now, but it was only at this week's Game Awards 2018 that we got an official title and a general sense of the game.
In a tweet published earlier this week, Geoff Keighley (presenter and driving force behind the massive show) announced there would be no less than TEN new game announcements at the show. A first-person shooter in a terrible universe that has seen capitalism run amok and infect numerous other planets, The Outer Worlds mixes the harsh materialism of society with a somewhat amusing look at the future. And the new RPG, coming in 2019, is giving us serious Fallout-in-space vibes.
