A's expect Murray to enter NFL Draft

Murray, a two-sport star, was chosen by the A's with the ninth pick of the Major League Baseball draft in 2018 and signed a $4.66 million contract in June that allowed him to play football for the Sooners for one final year before joining the team.

If Murray elects not to play baseball, he would have to return the signing bonus but Oakland would not receive any compensation picks in this June's draft, according to Slusser.

Murray, 21, was selected ninth overall in the first round of the MLB Draft last summer by the Athletics.

Kyler Murray is expected to declare for the 2019 NFL Draft. He led Oklahoma to a 12-1 record and a berth in the College Football Playoff by throwing for 4,053 yards and 40 touchdowns. Murray could, theoretically, declare for the National Football League draft ahead of this weekend's deadline, but in doing so he'd likely have to give up on his baseball ambitions. "I know he's signed up to play baseball, but he is a dominant football player, and I would take him with the first pick".

Murray has an invite to the Athletics' spring training camp next month.

Sources told the Chronicle they do not believe he can play football and baseball, though Murray has expressed a desire to possibly do both. The Sooners' season ended with a 45-34 loss to Alabama in the national semifinals. The NFL's scouting combine begins on February 26, which Murray will likely attend if he chooses to go the football route.

"When you win the Heisman Trophy, you're going to have a lot of information come to you to be looked at", Murray's agent Scott Boras said at the winter meetings.

She adds that another revealing sign could come on February 15 when Murray and the rest of the A's position players are due at spring training.
