Could Mats Hummels be on his way to Stamford Bridge

Pavard's status skyrocketed last summer when the centre-back scored the goal of the World Cup with a stunning net-busting strike in a 4-3 last-16 win over Argentina that set France on their way to the Russian Federation 2018 title.

Benjamin Pavard was part of the World Cup winning squad with France and has reportedly signed a five-year deal with the hugely successful Bayern Munich squad.

The 22-year-old full-back starred for France as they won the World Cup in the summer, his stunning strike against Argentina in the round of 16 eventually being named as goal of the tournament. "We're very glad and proud to have gained such a player for FC Bayern", Salihamidzic said.

He has featured 14 times for a struggling Stuttgart this season, with the club now 16th in the Bundesliga table.

The defender, who can play at centre-back as well as right-back, moved to the Bundesliga from Lille in 2016 and soon established himself as a star man for Stuttgart, starting all 34 league games last season.

And the signing of Pavard is unlikely to be the final piece of business completed by Bayern in January.

Niko Kovac's side trail Dortmund by six points in the table - the first time in eight seasons that they have not led the way going into the winter break.
