The baked snack proved to be a point of contention for some, as Piers Morgan called Greggs "PC-ravaged clowns".

Later, he bragged that he'd just ordered a non-vegan sausage roll via room service, adding that the "vegan resistance starts here".

The chain bakery launched a vegan sausage roll in 950 stores yesterday, including in Edinburgh and Glasgow - however, Dundee, Perth and other towns across Tayside and Fife missed out. "We love Dundee - maybe they'll be there one day".

"Like many food retailers we have seen increasing demand for vegetarian and vegan products", said Roger Whiteside, the chief executive of Greggs.

There are 311 calories in the vegan sausage roll, meaning it's a tasty treat that you definitely don't need to feel guilty about!

Vegans will be left disappointed as one of the only Greggs stores to sell the new vegan sausage rolls have not received their delivery.

"I honestly don't know why they don't want to take our money".

Many people praised the bakery chain for being inclusive and giving in to customer demand, but some die-hard meat eaters still showed disgust.

A POPULAR high street bakery has made a decision to join the vegan trend in the new year.
