Schroder's big second half leads Thunder past Spurs

"This is one of those nights", he said.

"He has been a beast all year long", said head coach Gregg Popovich. "That's a good team over there, and we had to stay calm. and we did it".

The Bench. Great night for the Thunder reserves.

Aldridge wasn't the only one who thrived.

In addition to the 20-plus points and eight rebounds Aldridge can seemingly still give you in his sleep, he's actually improved as a defender in the back half of his career, anchoring a top-four defense previous year while helping this season's depleted Spurs bounce back from an ugly start on that end of the floor. In his final season with Portland (2014-15), he shot a respectable 35.2 percent on 1.5 attempts per game.

LaMarcus Aldridge #12 of the San Antonio Spurs during the second half of the National Basketball Association game against the Phoenix Suns at Talking Stick Resort Arena on November 14, 2018 in Phoenix, Arizona.

San Antonio's big man chipped in seven points in the deciding second-overtime period and clocked in a team-high 49 minutes of playtime for the game.

"That was fun to be a part of", said guard Patty Mills, who finished 3-of-4 from 3-point range. Just trying to get to the rim.

But even with all that, this was still the Aldridge show. Schroder posted 19 points and sparked the Thunder to victory. Numerous feats happened in the game: San Antonio hit 14 straight three-pointers out the gate, before a miss from Derrick White in the 3rd quarter; Oklahoma City came back from 16 points heading into the fourth quarter to force overtime; San Antonio's LaMarcus Aldridge and Oklahoma City's Russell Westbrook had some of the most impressive outings of their careers.

The hosts had seven players in double figures with star guard Russell Westbrook scoring 24 and chalking up 10 rebounds and eight assists. Boston was minus-26 with him on the floor. Abdel Nader had 15 points and Patrick Patterson 13. But he goes and bangs. "I give him a lot of credit, because that's a skill and a gift as a player". I wish I could swear. It's hard to deny that he's unlocked new aspects of his game this year while Aldridge is finding new ways of doing the same thing.

Aldridge did not take a single shot from three points but his teammates did, scoring a combined 16 of 19 attempts from beyond the arc. Aldridge scored 42 points in the second half and both overtimes.

Now they get a different version of the back-to-back. "We saw that in L.A. tonight".

Aldridge wanted the ball both during the game and after.

Aldridge surpassed his previous career high of 45 points, which he set against Utah on March 23, 2018. But recent struggles from DeMar's end to take over the game had really been opening gates for other guys to step up. It's wildly hard to stop Aldridge there, because he's got so many different moves and counter-moves when the Spurs get him the ball in that spot. They were looking for me.

Though a rocky stretch of games in November tarnished his numbers, Aldridge has absolutely dominated his competition in the half court this season. "I definitely want to have that ball to add to the collection".
