For now, it has the word "concept" in its title, but it might as well be "preview" because Lexus does not have a history of showing us things it doesn't intend on building a short while later - especially nothing as production-ready as the convertible appears to be.
In the initial press release the company doesn't detail whether or not it will come to life via V8 power or have a hybrid option, but given that the video - see below - has a V8 soundtrack, we think Lexus is making its point clear. So far, it's only a show vehicle, and it is making its debut at the 2019 Detroit auto show.
DETROIT (January 11, 2019) - Lexus shocked the automotive world in Detroit three years ago with the debut of the LC coupe.
The regular LC coupe was touted for looking nearly exactly like its concept counterpart, and Lexus doesn't really do concept vehicles that never make it into production, so it's pretty safe to assume that this "concept" will be hitting showrooms in the near future.
The production LC coupe is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 paired with a 10-speed automatic, good for 471 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. In fact, it's one of the better coupe-to-convertible progressions we've seen of late-though full praise for the look may need to be held until we've seen the auto with the top up.
Inside, elegant white leather dramatically contrasts with yellow stitching and dark-colored trimmings. The wheels are 22-inchers, an inch larger than the biggest available for the fixed-roof vehicle.
"It blends all the best aspects of the original coupe with the dynamic design of an open-air convertible", says chief designer Tadao Mori.
"It would engage the senses in a way that is unique and exciting every time you got behind the wheel", Mori-san added. If we were told Lexus designed the convertible before the coupe, we'd believe them.
