Wayne Rooney was arrested in the United States accused of public intoxication, police have said.
Rooney was allegedly arrested on "public intoxication and swearing charges", and reportedly paid a $25 fine.
"We understand the media's interest in this matter but believe this is a private matter for Wayne that D.C. United will handle internally".
The 33-year-old scored 12 goals and laid on six assists in 21 appearances as DC United progressed to the MLS play-offs last season. "We have no further comment on this situation".
In 2017, Rooney was ordered to do 100 hours' community service after being arrested for drink-driving after being found to be three times over the legal limit.
Rooney was granted a farewell match by the Football Association in November against USA. Rooney, who was playing for Everton at the time, subsequently pleaded guilty to drink-driving at Stockport Magistrates' Court later that month.
Rooney is now 13 months into a drink-driving ban and has completed 100 hours of community service which was part of his punishment.
It came after he retired from worldwide competition with the Three Lions before the World Cup.
Rooney was arrested in Loudoun County, Virginia, on December 16 by the Washington Airport Authority, according to court records which surfaced on Sunday. It was completely wrong.
Rooney was released on his own recognizance and paid a $25 fine on January 4th, according to the records.
