More snow to fall Friday night

For Sunday rain will be in the forecast for most of the day with highs near 40°. We'll see a few flurries, sprinkles and brief sleet pellets during the day on Saturday.

Steadier and more widespread snow arrives Saturday evening and continues into Sunday morning.

"If they trend higher, we might have to up our amounts", said Jeremy Geiger, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Baltimore/Washington forecast office.

Kansas City, Missouri, Shawnee Mission and Blue Valley public schools canceled all Saturday activities ahead of the expected winter weather. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm WARNING for our area...effective from 6 o'clock this evening (Friday, January 11, 2019) until 6:00 a.m. Sunday. It will bring heavier, wet snow potential.

Southern Maryland, the Washington region including Prince George's and Montgomery counties, and much of Virginia and West Virginia are also under winter storm warnings. Temperatures will slip to the upper 20s and back to the upper 30s on Saturday. All of this means more snow north and west and more freezing rain Triad and south. Lows near 30 in the Triad to near 32 south of Asheboro.

We will continue to update the timing, track and totals of this snow storm as new data comes in.
