When Kansas City Chiefs fans look back at the 2018 season, the biggest thing that will stick out is the Patrick Mahomes sensation, Mahomes Mania, the Mahomes train, whatever you want to call it. "The Kingdom can rest assured that we have that under control: No more basketball for Pat".
One of the most significant offseasons in Chiefs' history is just weeks old, and Brett Veach, a general manager known for his aggression, wants to survey all his options.
However, NFL players have done less in the offseason and sustained serious injuries, something Veach was quick to address with Mahomes' agent. Veach said he was concerned that Mahomes' competitive nature wouldn't allow him to play basketball at something less than full effort.
"He actually was in the office yesterday and we were joking about it", he said.
It also probably should be pointed out that the Chiefs apparently had no problem with Mahomes playing in the Pro Bowl, an utterly meaningless game that nonetheless featuring live tackling. "He doesn't have that filter in his mind to just have fun and not take everything so competitively", Veach said. Mahomes seems to be pretty good at that, too. He was the second player in National Football League history to throw 50 touchdown passes and for more than 5,000 yards in the same season.
