China condemns Indian PM Modi’s visit to disputed region

The Andhra Pradesh government has hired two special trains to ferry people to New Delhi for Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's protest against the Centre on February 11, officials said in Amaravati on Saturday.

"China's position on the China-India border issue is consistent and clear-cut", said Hua, adding that the Chinese government has never recognized the so-called "Arunachal Pradesh, Xinhua reported".

The dispute remains unresolved, with India considering Arunachal Pradesh one of its northeastern states while China claims about 90,000 square kilometres of the territory.

PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of projects worth Rs 4,000 crore and a dedicated Doordarshan channel named "DD Arun Prabha" to Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said Modi had no right to visit the state as he has not fulfilled his promise to accord the SCS and various other commitments the Prime Minister had made during the state's bifurcation in 2014. He also addressed a public function in Itanagar, where he stressed that improving connectivity to the north-eastern state was important.

After two tense months, the troops from both countries withdrew and last April, Modi met with Xi Jinping in an effort to reset bilateral relations.

The two leaders had met in the Chinese city of Wuhan for an informal summit in April a year ago, where they had agreed to provide "strategic guidance" to their respective militaries to avoid the recurring of Doklam-like incidents.

In 2017, the two Asian giants were involved in a high-altitude standoff in Bhutan's Doklam region after the Indian army sent troops to stop the construction of a military road by China.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the state is an "integral and inalienable part of India" and the country's leaders make visits as they would go anywhere else in India.
