Realmuto was dangled on the trade market for most of the offseason, and on Thursday, Miami finally found a package it liked.

The Phillies and Marlins agreed to a trade that will send All-Star catcher J.T. Realmuto to Philadelphia for catcher Jorge Alfaro, pitching prospects Sixto Sanchez and Will Stewart, and an global bonus slot, league sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN.

After Realmuto notched the go-ahead single in a Marlins victory over the Nationals last season, Harper declared, "If we had that guy, we would have won".

"From our standpoint, that didn't play into the equation at all", Hill said. He hit.277 and set career highs with 21 homers, 74 RBI and an OPS of.825.

The Phillies wanted a proven middle-of-the-lineup bat and also needed to improve their game-calling behind the plate and satisfied both needs with the trade for Realmuto.

Along with Alfaro, the Marlins acquired highly regarded pitchers Sixto Sanchez and Will Stewart.

In fact, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic and Matt Breen of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Phillies are hoping the Realmuto addition makes Philly an even more appealing landing spot for either of the 26-year-old superstars.

Realmuto was a first-time All-Star in his fourth season a year ago. After that he is scheduled to become a free agent.

The 2018 season was Alfaro's first full year in the big leagues. But in an offseason in which the White Sox have loaded up their roster with pals of Manny Machado - including his brother-in-law, Yonder Alonso - perhaps the Phillies bringing in Realmuto would put them over the top.

Miami's rebuilding project will probably continue for several years under CEO Derek Jeter, whose group bought the team after the 2017 season. Stewart, 21, excelled in Class A last season, going 8-1 with a 2.06 ERA in 20 starts.

"We have heard outstanding things about J.T. and his work ethic and his makeup and his leadership and the type of teammate he is", Klentak said. "Electric stuff - a pitcher we think can develop and lead a championship rotation".

Realmuto was in his second season of arbitration eligibility this winter.
