Then the two debate whether Michelle told her mother about the event.

Obama, 55, made a surprise appearance on the Grammys stage Sunday and gave her mother a heads up to tune in - or so she thought.

And although the music industry treated her like a rock star, Marian Robinson wasn't so impressed.

The playful conversation began with Robinson referring to her daughter's appearance at Sunday's Grammy Awards - and making a Peak Mom suggestion that she was miffed at not getting a heads-up that Obama would be on TV.

"I guess you were a hit at the Grammys", Robinson wrote along with a tongue out emoji.

So while the audience in attendance cheered Obama as she spoke and applauded after she had finished, her mother was more interested in whether her daughter had met any "real celebrity" at the event!

Obama ended the exchange by writing "And I AM A real star.by the way".

Just because you're a former first lady doesn't mean you're a "real" celebrity - at least, not in your mom's eyes.

"No you did not", Robinson replied, joking, "I would have remembered that even though I don't remember much".

Robinson, who lived with the Obamas during their White House years, shares a close relationship with her daughter. Obama insisted she told her mom the news. "#TextsFromMom", the former first lady captioned the screenshot.

"I wanted them to come home to family....there was just parts of the girls" lives that I just knew were going to be okay 'cause Mom was there, ' she said.

"Leave it to moms to keeps us humble", one fan added.
