Strzok was removed in 2017 from special counsel Robert Mueller's investigative team following the discovery of the messages with attorney Lisa Page.
But when you say advice you got from the Department, you're making it sound like it was the Department that told you: "You're not going to charge gross negligence because we're the prosecutors and we're telling you we're not going to-", Ratcliffe asked Page before the former Federal Bureau of Investigation lawyer interrupted by saying "That is correct", as the Texas Republican concluded his sentence with "bring a case based on that".
Page explained that since she and Strzok were both involved with the counterintelligence investigation of possible Russian collusion during the 2016 election, the "insurance policy" was a reference to how the investigation would magnify if Trump became president.
Page and Strzok had been engaged in an affair during the time the Mueller probe was launched.
"If there's an allegation, he, of all people, but everybody would want to know: if this is going on in my campaign I want you to tell me about it", Strzok said.
But Page's testimony was perhaps the most salient evidence yet that the Justice Department improperly interfered with the FBI's supposedly independent conclusions on Clinton's criminal culpability, Ratcliffe alleged.
"No he won't. We'll stop it", Strzok replied.
Strzok waged a similar defense during a contentious public hearing in July of a year ago.
Strzok testified he was asked to review his personal phone and email accounts for any work-related documents.
Trump's tweet comes after Congressman Doug Collins released 370 pages of Page's transcript testimony on his own volition, and promised that he would release even more in the future.
In a statement Thursday, Strzok attorney Aitan Goelman said his client welcomed the release of the transcript.
Asked in general terms whether he had "ever been part of the FBI's efforts to infiltrate a US political campaign" or "been part of an effort to put a spy in a USA political campaign", Strzok said no.
"Included in the transcripts provided to us is information suggesting Brennan was aware of the so-called Steele dossier in early August 2016, and that he included information regarding the dossier in a briefing given to then-Sen".
The FBI is investigating the private server Hillary Clinton used while Secretary of State and whether Clinton or her aides broke any laws in their handling of classified information. McCabe has said he could not recall such a meeting taking place.
