Tragic news has struck Kevin Durant and his family.

Clifford Dixon, who Durant considered his adopted brother, was fatally shot outside a metro Atlanta bar early Thursday, Chamblee police confirmed in a release.

According to TMZ, Police say Dixon was partying at the SL Lounge in Atlanta when a lone gunman opened fire in front of the nightclub around 1 a.m. Thursday. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities are now conducting an investigation, after the assailant reportedly fled on foot. Security cameras at the scene were also reportedly not functioning.

Dixon was out celebrating his 32nd birthday.

"I'm so sorry this happened, you didn't deserve this", Erica Mena said. "This is our trophy, too".

Dixon was one of the many people that Durant shouted out during his famous emotional MVP acceptance speech, after winning the award as member of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Dixon, who was born in Maryland, was hosting a birthday celebration at the bar, which he advertised on Instagram, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

The two-time champion is averaging 27.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game this season.
