Louisiana lightweight fighter Dustin Poirier is set to face off against UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in September after securing a victory in a fight against Max Holloway in Atlanta, Georgia.
Holloway has cleaned out the featherweight division, which is why he'll be moving up in weight and making his first move up to 155 pounds.
Just two months after he took a decision from 43-year-old legend Anderson Silva, Adesanya came back on a quick turnaround to capture the interim title at 185 pounds and set up a showdown with full champion Robert Whittaker later this year.
The Dagestani fighter is now on an enforced hiatus from the octagon after his suspension for the mass melee that marred his win over Conor McGregor back in October, but is widely tipped to make a September comeback. As a result, both Poirier vs. Holloway and Adesanya vs. Gastelum garnered "Fight of the Night" honors, and all four men walked away with $50,000 bonus checks. Poirier, a longtime title contender, has not lost in his last five bouts.
