Pep Guardiola said he would accept any punishment UEFA may hand down to Manchester City for alleged breaches of financial fair play regulations but reiterated his trust in the club's hierarchy.

The Champions secured back-to-back league titles with Sunday's emphatic triumph at Brighton for the first time, tallying an astonishing 198 points spanning two record-breaking campaigns in the process.

In a statement released on Thursday, Uefa said (as reported): "The Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) chief investigator, after having consulted with the other members of the independent investigatory chamber of the CFCB, has today chose to refer Manchester City FC to the CFCB adjudicatory chamber following the conclusion of his investigation".

"If Liverpool win the Premier League it is an incredible achievement".

"We are working on [reaching the levels of United and Liverpool's top-flight success] but you can't fight history".

"We have enjoyed an incredible two seasons but to be the best, we have to do it for a longer time. It's a remarkable effort, but it means that we were just better than them in the end", De Bruyne said. We are flattered a lot.

"We know what to expect from Man City and if one of their world class players produces a bit of magic then sometimes it's very hard to stop but we know we have players that can also produce a bit of magic and can score fantastic goals too". Maybe in another five years...

"We focus on winning games". That's far away. Is it possible? We will work on I don't know what because we tried to do our best, but the Champions League is hard and I can admit it.

City have had to circle the wagons this week in the aftermath of their Premier League triumph.

And despite losing twice to Guardiola's men in the league this season, Hornets boss Javi Gracia, whose side mounted an impressive comeback to beat Wolves in the semi-final, is taking heart from both games. You play with emotions in the Champions League more than other competitions.

"We have to win again and again and again", he said. Some will say we are; some will say we aren't - that's football and that's nice.

Asked if he was keen to guard against complacency by freshening up the squad, the City manager said: "That is one of the reasons, yes". Because of that, a la PSG there always seems to be an asterisk next to City's name when it comes to the trophies they've won. "How easy would it have been for him to just give up, or just go: "Right, it's not for me"?"
