Delaware County Sheriff's Office Deputy Andrew Lee filed a probable cause affidavit against Zachary E. Smith, 35, of Powell, Thursday alleging that on Thursday afternoon Smith violated a protection order his ex-wife, Courtney, has against him when he showed up at Scioto Ridge Elementary School and attempted to pick up their children.
The Ohio State football program was plagued with controversy this past season, mostly in part to the actions of former wide receivers coach Zach Smith.
After being arrested, he was transported to Delaware County jail, according to ABC6 on Your Side.
Authorities questioned Smith and learned that there was a Civil Protection Order in place and that he violated it.
Smith's ex-wife was also at the school on Thursday, per the report, and told the sheriff's office that he was not allowed to pick up the children until after 6 p.m.
Smith was sacked from his position at Ohio State in July after Courtney was granted domestic protection.
Smith, who was sacked before the season after allegations of his domestic abuse against his ex-wife Courtney surfaced, was arrested on Thursday following an altercation at the elementary school his children attend. School staff prevented him from doing so, and that's when Smith became confrontational. This order is to protect Courtney Smith, and she did not agree to any "mutual" stay-away order. Just very sad for the children. No court has found Courtney in contempt of any court order.
"This was not Mr. Smith's court-ordered parenting time, and the school is not the exchange location", Julia Leveridge, Courtney Smith's attorney said.
