Defending national champion Clemson at Syracuse on September 14 will fill that spot in Week 3.
OR and Auburn will kick off the Advocare Classic at 4:30 p.m. PT Aug. 31 in AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas as ABC's Saturday Night Football broadcast. Syracuse's only other appearance on Saturday Night Football came in 2014, a 31-15 loss to Notre Dame at Met Life Stadium.
The Tigers closed out the 2018 season by knocking off previously undefeated and eighth-ranked UCF, 40-32, in the Fiesta Bowl, while the Longhorns beat Georgia, 28-21, in the Sugar Bowl. That game will be played at the AT&T Center in Dallas, Texas, and televised by ABC. The SEC vs. Pac-12 contest will be a rematch of the 2010 season's national championship game, which represents the only meeting between the two schools.
The nationally-prominent television slot is an indication that ABC/ESPN view the game as one of the day's marquee options and the placement should only increase the chances of ESPN College GameDay visiting Syracuse's campus for a football game for the first time. In week 3, the Clemson Tigers travel to Syracuse, the last team not named Alabama to defeat the Tigers.
The soldout game against Clemson will be the home opener for the Orange as well as the University's Homecoming weekend.
