Nuwan Pradeep to miss Sri Lanka's match against Bangladesh

An injury to Pradeep will be a serious blow to Sri Lanka's World Cup hopes, with the fast bowler having bowled the decisive spell in Sri Lanka's only victory of the tournament so far, against Afghanistan.

Sri Lanka's match victor against Afghanistan fast bowler Nuwan Pradeep was ruled out of the crucial World Cup game against Bangladesh starting at the County ground here on Tuesday after dislocating the small finger of his bowling hand at practice on Sunday.

After missing out a game against Pakistan, Sri Lanka lost their major player for the game against Bangladesh team. "He was also administered with antibiotics", Sri Lanka Team manager Asantha De Mel said.

He added: "Pradeep will not take part in Sri Lanka's Game against Bangladesh on Tuesday, as he will need a week's time to recover from the injury". He is definitely out of the Bangladesh game.

Pradeep bagged 4 wickets against Afghanistan while giving away 31 runs. However, they have a stand-by player travelling with them, Kasun Rajitha; who can replace Pradeep in the next game.

Sri Lanka successfully defended a revised target of 187 off 41 overs by dismissing Afghanistan for 152 with Pradeep creaming off the top order to put the brakes on the opponent's batting.

In another injury scare, Lahiru Thirimanne also felt discomfort in his knee during practice, which raises doubts about his match-fitness for Tuesday.
