Philadelphia man, neighborhood mob beats carjacker to death after suspect takes off with 3 kids: Cops

A 54-year-old man who police say stole a vehicle left running with three young children inside was beaten to death in Philadelphia by the kids' parents and onlookers after he got stuck in traffic. She had their 3 children in the vehicle with her and she left them there while she dashed in.

Police took both the father and mother into custody for questioning but, so far, neither has been charged.

A 54-year-old man then got into the auto and took off with three children, aged 7 months, one and five, inside the vehicle.

"They were able to pull this auto thief out of the vehicle".

According to The Philadelphia Enquirer, police sources identified the alleged carjacker as as Eric Hood from North Philadelphia. He only got about a half block away before dad ran him down again.

The boyfriend, also 25, pulled the suspect from the vehicle and a short foot chase ensued, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told WPVI. The parents chased down the vehicle on foot and pulled the carjacker out of the auto when he got caught in traffic, police said. "And the boyfriend caught up to him and there was some sort of physical struggle that ensued", Small said. He was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital, police said. "It was at this time that a crowd of individuals stopped Mr. Hood and forced him to the ground", Philadelphia Police Homicide Captain Jason Smith said.

Police are investigating and had not made any arrests Friday afternoon.
