We took risks but that's the way here.

"They have pace and if you turn over the ball and allow them to run in behind you they can hurt you". We were so comfortable in the first half, so loads of lessons for us. But there are lessons there. "[Marcos] Alonso was on the bench, Kante was on the bench, Giroud was on the bench, and to come to Old Trafford, even if this is not the huge Manchester United that used to scare people, it's Manchester United".

In his first outing at The Theatre of Dreams in a United shirt the most expensive defender in world football put on a solid display, keeping Frank Lampard's attacking Chelsea at bay.

The win was United's biggest over Chelsea in a top-flight match since the same scoreline in March 1965 under Matt Busby.

"It's a great start for myself and obviously the team", he told Sky Sports. "We rode our luck a little bit in the first half, we gave them too many chances and were sloppy on the ball".

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer paid tribute to his young players for taking risks after Manchester United thumped Chelsea in their opening game at Old Trafford.

"The second half will give us loads of belief and confidence in the way we settled down and passed the ball around".

"In the second half we were a lot better, were much more like ourselves and controlled the game and we fully deserved the three points".

It was no contest and Rashford made it 3-0 with a clinical finish once again, leaving Lampard stood on the sidelines looking like he'd been hit by a truck.

But against the run of play the hosts got in front with an 18th minute Rashford penalty after the England forward was pulled down by Kurt Zouma.

Chelsea responded well, however, and went close to an equaliser when Emerson struck the post shortly before the break with a left-foot drive from a tight angle. Once in a while, he is caught out of position defensively, but that means we can counter-attack, and his second goal was outstanding.
