Head coach Jon Gruden of the Oakland Raiders reacts during the first half of the National Football League preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium on August 15, 2019 in Glendale, Arizona.
The play happened as Conely attempted to take down Denver Broncos running back Royce Freeman. But the victory was somewhat bittersweet as cornerback Gareon Conley appeared to suffer a severe neck injury in the third quarter.
Conley immediately started to grab his neck.
Both teams have some new faces and will look to integrate them into their gameplan. And for that, the Raiders and Conley have to feel extremely fortunate.
"I got good word on him that he is going to be OK", Gruden said, via the Mercury News. "Don't know his status for the next game, but most importantly he's alright". "That was a scary hit that he took, but all the reports that I have are very, very positive".
The Raiders struck first Monday night in their Week 1 matchup against the Broncos, capping of an impressive 77-yard drive with a Derek Carr touchdown pass to newly minted go-to receiver Tyrell Williams.
