Fresnada was taken to Lincoln Hospital in a critical but stable condition.
Caceres told the Daily News that Fresnada was beaten for 15 minutes. He said he couldn't help because he didn't have a cell phone. No contact information for him could immediately be found Saturday.
CBS New York reported that Fresnada was walking around the Bronx with his 29-year-old husband at 1:25 a.m. on Tuesday when several individuals allegedly demanded that they hand over their possessions. They tried to run away, but a group attacked them outside the deli.

It's unclear whether he is Fresnada or Caceres, who didn't need hospitalization.
Police say the muggers violently kicked and punched Fresnada and robbed the couple of $1 before fleeing the scene.
Fresnada, originally Honduras, and the Cuban-born Fresnada, met in 2015 through a program for poor men, according to the Daily News.
"He's very calm, and I'm the one who is stressed all the time", Caceres said Wednesday as Fresnada lay in intensive care.
