Israeli Defence Minister Approves New Jewish Neighbourhood in Hebron

The Israeli defense minister approved plans for the construction of a new illegal settlement in the heart of the city of Hebron, which attracts criticism from Palestinian officials.

In related news, the soldiers installed a roadblock at the entrance of Shuhada Street, in the center of Hebron city, in addition to many roadblocks on roads in several areas of Hebron governorate.

The troops then opened fire and saw that one suspect had been hit, the military said in a statement.

Naftali Bennett's announcement came as the prospects of a third snap election since April loomed larger, with the minister's New Right party leaning heavily on settlers for support at the polls.

Senior Palestinian official Saeb Erekat said the new project was a result of the United States' decision last month to no longer consider Israeli settlements illegal.

Neither Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and allies like Bennett, nor their opponents, won enough parliamentary seats to form a viable coalition.

Lawmakers now have until December 11 to find a solution or see parliament dissolved once again.

According to several resolutions of the UN Security Council, the most recent in 2016, Israeli settlements are illegal under global law, as they violate the Fourth Geneva Convention, which prohibits an occupying power from transferring its population to the area it occupies.

The remarks by the Arab bloc's assistant secretary general for Palestinian affairs Saeed Abuali came amid talks over current Palestinian affairs, in which he lashed out at the USA for "overlooking" the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

In September Netanyahu visited the settlement in Hebron for the first time since becoming Israeli leader in 2009.

"We're not strangers in Hebron".

Villages close to Hebron are also regularly the scene of unrest.

A number of Palestinian civilians suffered from tear gas inhalation due to the Israeli occupation forces' firing of tear gas and tear gas canisters towards houses in the area.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army said in a press statement that the Israeli force found that the three men were trying to throw fire bombs at an Israeli vehicle, and the Israeli soldiers shot one of them and arrested the other two.
