Johnson took to Twitter regarding the announcement, stating, "The opportunity to kick in the XFL has presented itself, i must tryout Monday in Houston, I'm excited as hell & I'm sure all will go well". "I must tryout Monday in Houston". All eight teams have been in training camp in the Houston area since January 4, with the inaugural season set to begin February 8.

The 42-year-old was named to six Pro Bowls as a receiver, but he has also had a passion for kicking as he showed kicking an extra point for the Bengals over ten years ago.

"I'm going back to the @nfl as a kicker next year, i spoke with Goodell and i will get the opportunity".

But some may not remember that Johnson had the ability to be a great kicker: he only had some opportunities in the National Football League to show his kicking skills, but it seemed he could have been a legitimate position kicker in the NFL. "I'm good from 60 & 70 yards if i had a cleat on my plant foot".

Johnson, 42, last appeared in an National Football League competition as a member of the New England Patriots in February 2012. He joined the Montreal Alouettes in 2014, recording seven catches for 151 yards and a touchdown in 12 games.

Johnson actually has a bit of a history as a kicker.

In fact, Johnson converted an extra point and kicked off for the Cincinnati Bengals during the 2009 preseason, though he never had the chance to use his leg in an actual game.
