The announcement came on Thursday night during the Celtics' matchup against the LA Clippers (whose head coach Doc Rivers coached the Celtics during KG's tenure).

The announcement occurred during the first timeout in Boston's game against the Clippers, with Garnett's former Boston coach, Doc Rivers, standing on the opposite sideline.

The team has not yet announced a specific date for when No. 5 will go into the rafters along with the 22 others, but the ceremony is scheduled to take place sometime during the 2020-21 season.

Garnett joined Boston in a trade leading up to the 2007-08 season that saw him join forces with Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, a union that ultimately led the Celtics to their NBA-best 17th championship. I don't know how he did that, but he did it.

Garnett was drafted fifth overall by the Wolves in 1995.

"He changed the culture of this franchise".

Garnett, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karl Malone are the only players with 25,000 points, 10,000 rebounds and 5,000 assists in their careers, according to ESPN Stats & Information research. He is one of only five players to lead their respective teams in those five categories since blocks and steals became official in 1973-74.

The Lowell, Mass., native was lucky enough to catch games as a teenager from the Garden's top floor, the Halo, where special guests got to watch the games. "It was off the charts". "That is very similar. Ever. I've never seen a guy that committed to winning".
