Of course, the important question to be asking at this point is, just what Spider-Man spinoff could Sony/Marvel have earmarked for this 2021 release date? While he watches TV, the doctor finds himself on the TV with J. Jonah Jameson (the same version of the character played by JK Simmons in Spider-Man: Far From Home) reporting about Michael getting himself killed as Morbius.
According to a Marvel Fan on Reddit, a credible source has revealed information about Sony's Morbius movie. Sony has also been working on its own Marvel movies featuring Spider-Man characters without Marvel Studios helping produce. Likewise, it gained't seemingly be spinoff-sequel Venom 2, which is set to reach over a 12 months earlier, on October 2, 2020.
Sony controls the rights to make movies based on Spider-Man and his vast collection of related characters. There's no way to know what it could be at this time, although Sony has been wanting to do a Sinister Six movie for years and rumor has it that Morbius begins to set that up in some way.
However, the two studios collaborated for the last two Spider-Man movies, Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017 and Spider-Man: Far From Home a year ago, both of which were set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Box-office tracker ERC made the announcement, with Sony not going into any more detail.
Sony's next Marvel release is Morbius, which is coming to cinemas on July 31st 2020, with Venom 2 following on October 2nd 2020.
Kraven The Hunter is another possibility doing the rounds, with Homecoming director Jon Watts having floated a possible movie in the past. That may take him out of the running to claim this new 2021 date, but on the other hand, perhaps he'll get his own movie before crossing paths with the Wall-Crawler.
