"He's two to three weeks".

No sale. "I'm trying to build a program", said Holland. "We'll double-back a week from now".

"I think it hurts any team when the best player is out, that's no secret", said Draisaitl with the Oilers heading off for three road games in Tampa, Florida and Carolina. Holland was asked if the muscle was torn, but declined to give specifics on the injury.

McDavid participated in power play practice Monday morning and told media he was "a little sore and swollen". The centre described his injury as a charley horse after the session.

The Edmonton Oilers will be without Connor McDavid for tonight's game against the Chicago Blackhawks, plus a while longer, as he recovers from a quad injury.

Notes: McDavid's injury occurred on Saturday in a 3-2 win over the Nashville Predators when he crashed into the boards along with opposition defenceman Dante Fabbro in the second period, but was able to finish the game. He is second in the National Hockey League to teammate Leon Draisaitl with 81 points.

McDavid's initial recovery timeline was set at 10 months, but remarkably he made it back on the ice in time for Edmonton's season opener.

The Oilers now sit second in the Pacific Division, but have only a one-point lead over the Arizona Coyotes, who now sit outside the playoff picture.
