Derby County star Andre Wisdom was stabbed in the head and buttocks by an armed gang who stole his watch, police have revealed, with the 27-year-old in a stable condition in hospital.
It is claimed the ex-Liverpool player was attacked while he got out of his auto in the neighbourhood of Toxteth, where he was visiting family. Wisdom was attacked in Liverpool on Saturday.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Derby County said: 'Derby County Football Club can confirm that Andre Wisdom has been the victim of an unprovoked assault and robbery.
His injuries are not "thought to be life-threatening" and the former Liverpool player is a stable condition.
The defender made his Liverpool debut in 2012, going on to appear 19 times while scoring one goal under Brendan Rodgers in his first senior campaign.
As he got out of his vehicle to pick up the family member, the 27-year old was stabbed multiple times in an "unprovoked assault and robbery".
It was during that time that Wisdom featured for West Brom, Norwich and RB Salzburg before joining Derby on a permanent deal in 2017.
According to reports, Wisdom is expected to be discharged before the weekend but will miss his side's clash against promotion rivals Preston North End on Wednesday.
