Franklin, who in 2018 died of pancreatic cancer at the age 76, was a producer on the film.

For fans of Aretha Franklin, this certainly looks like a must view while for those that aren't the film should provide some decent and insightful entertainment into the singer's life. At this time, Respect is still on schedule to open in theaters this December.

The film begins with the struggles at Aretha's career and follows her through her massive rise to fame, culminating in her becoming the Queen of Soul. The movie's story is by Callie Khouri (Oscar victor for "Thelma & Louise") and Tracey Scott Wilson.

We can't think of anyone better than the vocal sensation that is Jennifer - who, let's not forget, scooped an Academy Award for her performance in Dreamgirls - to play the great singer.
