Lil Wayne paid tribute to the late Kobe Bryant by performing his 2009 song "Kobe Bryant" over the weekend at the BET Awards.

Wayne included a tribute to Bryant on his latest album Funeral, which came out just days after the National Basketball Association pro's death. The Lakers beat the Orlando Magic after five games in the 2009 NBA Finals.

Kobe's 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, was also in the helicopter at the time of the crash.

Speaking of the rapper and his views on the BLM movement, not too long ago, it's been revealed that Lil Wayne has been sharing a different perspective on the current Black Lives Matter protests in the aftermath of George Floyd's death at the hand of yet another case of police brutality. Unsurprisingly, the rapper praised Bryant for his 60-point outing in his final game of his career, which was a lovely way to cap Kobe's 20-year career.

"My heart goes out to Vanessa and the whole Black Mamba family", Wayne added to the song. Staging can often be hard when putting on a live show, but the ability to pre-plan a performance from home, a closed set or green screen provided an endless array of creative choices that played well for us at home watching. In addition, Wayne was also interviewed while sitting courtside at a Lakers game and stated: "He (Kobe) not only inspires songs, but inspires me in life".
