Harry Maguire to remain Manchester United captain

Solskjaer discusses Pogba's chances of making Crystal Palace clash after Covid recovery

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Harry Maguire will keep the captain's armband at Manchester United.

27-year-old Maguire, who joined Manchester United last summer in a mammoth £80 million ($102 million) deal, was handed a suspended prison sentence by Greek authorities after being found guilty of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and repeated attempts of bribery.

Solskjaer commended the 27-year-old for the way he has reacted to the situation and says he sees no reason to strip him of the captaincy.

Maguire has appealed the sentence, nullifying the conviction, but was dropped from Gareth Southgate's England squad following the trial.

"Of course, the Europa League will help us in that respect because the players who have played in that over the summer don't really need that much, and some of the global games". "He didn't have a long break".

Van de Beek got his first outing in a United shirt in their 1-0 pre-season defeat by Aston Villa, with the Dutchman one of the players to really impress for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side. We'll just leave Harry and his people and the process to run.

Midfielder Paul Pogba is back in training after his positive coronavirus test and Solskjaer said he hoped the France global would be available for their season opener at home to Crystal Palace on September 19.

Solskjaer said: "He's been training only a couple of days but he's a bright, bubbly character".

"Really good. It's all about minutes and he got that", Shaw told MUTV when asked to assess the Dutchman's performance against Villa. Of course, he worked really hard to get back after lockdown last time and played the majority of the games. "I am not 100% sure though".
