Reports suggest that Sony has run into some manufacturing issues with the PlayStation 5's custom SoC, which may lead to fewer PlayStation 5 sales.
Sony Interactive Entertainment has released a new promotional video for PlayStation 5, dubbed "The Edge". The same source claims that production will be reduced from an estimated 15 million units to 11 million units.
According to a Bloomberg report, the company is seeing yields as low as 50 percent. If demand is as high as Sony is anticipating, this could be quite the problem for the console manufacturer. Yields have been gradually improving but have yet to reach a stable level, they added.
Analysts are concerned that SOC production issues can result in an increase in the component's cost, which will impact Sony's profits.
Play Has No Limits is Sony's new tag line, replacing For The Players, but there's no mention of the PlayStation 5 console which was tagged on at the end of the last Play Has No Limits advert. The PlayStation 5 Showcase will last for approximately 40 minutes and will include updates on the games and input from some of the development partners. Based on previous launches, this would put the PS5 at around Rs. 44,990 in India, with the PS5 Digital Edition possibly around Rs. 39,990, which is similar to the Xbox Series X and Series S pricing.
